Jellyfish Shaped UFO Captured on Camera in California Looks Like Something Out of War of the Worlds

original

A mountaintop yoga session has yielded a highly bizarre UFO photo, and the weird object looks more like an underwater creature than an iconic saucer.

The odd image was captured on July 14th by a group of hikers who trekked to the top of Steven’s Trail in Auburn, California for a mid-day yoga session. After snapping a few images of poses on the rock face, a hiker noticed a strange anomaly hovering in the background of the photo, and the big flying jellyfish doesn’t look like any UFO we’ve ever seen reported before.

Here’s the full report filed with MUFON:

My friends and I were on a hike on a popular trail in Auburn, California, when we decided to stop and rest about a mile down the trail. There is a rock that protrudes from the mountainside that overlooks most of the canyon and river below that is ideal for photographs and provides a large vantage point of the surrounding mountains.

We were all taking turns doing yoga at this vantage point and taking pictures with an iPhone 4, and reviewing them immediately after. Upon reviewing the clarity of several of the photos that were taken seconds apart, we noticed an unusual object in the sky in one of the photos that did not appear in the pictures taken seconds before and after. The object appears to be a diamond shape with two narrow appendages protruding from the bottom and has a metallic appearance due to the reflection of the sun.

We all climbed as high as we could to see if the object could still be seen with no such luck. There was very little breeze and we saw no further aircraft or any kind of balloon for the duration of the hike. If we had not captured the object in that very brief moment, we would have most likely never seen the object as it made no noticeable sound, left no apparent trail in the sky on a nearly cloudless day, and it disappeared from sight immediately. We are not sure what the object is, but it appears to be large in size due to the focus in the foreground vs the slight blur of the object over the horizon line.

Does anyone else find it slightly disconcerting that the object bears a striking resemblance to the tripods from War of the Worlds?

So what do you say, gang? Have you ever seen an image of similarly shaped UFO? Send it over! Do you have any ideas on what the weird object could be? Share your thoughts with us on Facebook, tweet us @WhoForted, or leave a comment below!

Hi- I think it’s something sent up to take pictures of the area. Question is -by whom and why?

The first thing I checked were those iPhone UFO apps, but this image doesn’t match those I could find online. I thought maybe there appeared to be some type of tether since there’s the faintest hint of a dark line running from below the object. But I couldn’t resolve it from a webjacked image. I dunno. It’s a headscratcher so far. I’m inclined, as always, to say hoax, but I can’t prove it. Maybe it is a UFO and it has come to punish them for their montane yoga trek.

With the apps today that add a ufo into pictures, makes you wonder. In fact, maybe the iphone owner was playing a trick on his friends and it blossomed from there.

Maybe it’s a bug flying upside down and too close to the lens? That would be my first guess before saying it’s a ufo. The focal plane of the object looks to be closer to the lens, then the background which is in focus better.

I think the metallic UFO decided to emulate the humans, & started to stretch the appendages it uses to abduct cattle ;)

“Now stretch, stretch, stretch those tentacles out, out as faaaar as they can go, feel the burn, and when you’re ready, grab the nearest bovine and exsanguinate it.”

It doesn’t look photoshopped – which means it’s either a very good photoshop, was hoaxed in some other way, or, possibly more terrifying, actually real. Sadly, until we see more proof, this falls in the “interesting but harmless” category; something to look at and go “huh, well, that’s weird” every now and then.

Now if anybody else wants to go to Steven’s Trail and try to get more shots – or, at the very least, do some yoga – then maybe we’ll catch more of ‘em. Any takers? :D

I live very near Auburn. It’s in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Stories of UFOs are pretty common in the Sierra.

I thought Steven’s Trail was just a bit further up the hill, in Colfax. Maybe I’ll go check it out, and takes some pics. ;)

It’s obvious from the pictures that the aliens are preparing to do an anal probe. Butt, seriously, could it be one of those remote control balloon sharks?

It looks to me like they might have captured a wisbase jumper in mid-flight. Base jumping in California is illegal but that’s never stopped anyone from doing anything.

I agree. The object does appear to be closer to the lens then the yogi. possibly a bubble bee or a beetle with its wings on the downbeat.

Good grief, you guys are ignorant as always when a real UFO picture appears. Total and absolute denial out of fear humans aren’t the strongest, humans aren’t in control of their world and the fact that there is someone superior out there.

Stick your heads in the sand and hide, because that’s the best you can do.

Interesting! I hope that everyone had a great and safe weekend, having a good week and has another good weekend. I also hope that they had a happy Parent’s Day. That goes for last year and all the other years that I’ve missed. A cool picture!

Wait, is that bigfoot doing a handstand too?

Why is it with all the electronic gadgets out there today we still can not get a clear image?

My vote is for the base jumper. The metallic quality of the object, and the size/shape and blur of it don’t look like an insect to me. I also don’t think it looks closer to the lens than the man.

Odd, but with no corroborating evidence and the ease with which extremely convincing fakes can be made today (See: http://is.gd/UXLy5f) , this is just strange and mildly interesting. It *could* be a bird, perhaps a duck in rapid flight from left to right, with both wings down.

I saw something similar over Phoenix in the late 90′s and actually called a local TV station over it. A lot of other people were calling in about it, too. Turns out, it was a weather balloon of some sort.

It is a UFO- UFO does not in any way imply space alien air craft it simply means its an object in flight that is unidentified. A butterfly can be a UFO if you’re not 100% certain it was indeed a butterfly. Its an alien tour craft pausing and taking a gander at an odly feminine yoga practicing liberal californa man.
